How Relebohile Mofokeng’s secret Belgium move was exposed

“We are very proud of our boy."

SEDIBENG.- Much has been said and written about Orlando Pirates forward Relebohile Mofokeng’s move to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium.

Mofokeng left the Bafana Bafana camp in Los Angeles to travel to Belgium, reportedly to undergo a medical test, after his team was knocked out of the FIFA World Cup 2026 on Sunday.

The transfer was meant to be a secret, but journalists discovered the news when Mofokeng collected his passport from the team manager.

According to a source close to the player, journalists discovered the news from a source within the Bafana Bafana camp.

“When Mofokeng came to collect his passport, Coach Hugo Broos mentioned something about going to Belgium. This is where everyone in the camp came to know about his move, including the journalist who followed Mofokeng to Los Angeles airport.”

When Sedibeng Ster Sport questioned Mofokeng’s father, Sechaba, at the Relebohile Mofokeng Foundation Tournament in Sharpeville on Wednesday, he said the family knew about the deal, but kept it under the radar until the media broke the story.

We were fully aware of the move.

At first, Mofokeng (Sechaba) said those were just rumors. However, he later admitted that they were fully aware of the move to Belgium.

“We were aware of Rele’s move to Belgium, but we didn’t want to share this information with the public or anyone. The next thing, the news was all over the media,” laughed Sechaba.

“We are very proud of our boy,” Sechaba added.

Both parents remained busy running the youth tournament on the day.
