SAFA Sedibeng orders re-election of ELFA

The recently held elections for the Emfuleni Local Football Association (ELFA) have been declared unconstitutional by SAFA Sedibeng.

SEBOKENG. — The recently held elections for the Emfuleni Local Football Association (ELFA) have been declared unconstitutional by SAFA Sedibeng.

The elections took place at the Saul Tsotetsi Sports Centre in Zone 14, where Mfanafuthi Masondo was elected chairperson alongside his deputies Junior Gusha, Mami Hlalele, and Joseph Mathlong.

They were meant to succeed Jabu Mgcina and his committee, whom critics had accused of overstaying their welcome in office.

Emfuleni failed to meet its constitutional requirement that a congress quorum must consist of 50% plus.

However, SAFA Sedibeng stepped in following a complaint and reviewed the process.

During a meeting held on July 27, the regional executive committee noted that while other local associations followed proper procedures, Emfuleni failed to meet its constitutional requirement that a congress quorum must consist of 50% plus one of members in good standing who are entitled to vote.

Consequently, SAFA Sedibeng nullified the July 19 election results.

The new elective congress has been scheduled for August 26.

The previous executive committee led by Mgcina will remain in office until new elections are organised.

SAFA Sedibeng President Solly Mkhabela, who was recently re-elected unopposed to lead the region for another four years, confirmed to Sedibeng Ster Sport that the new elective congress has been scheduled for August 26.

Only members in good standing will be permitted to attend and vote.
