Unfortunately, every Tom, Dick and Harry wants to run local football!

For those who are not aware, football is not about positions!

SEDIBENG.- Growing up in the football community, Zakes’ Sports Corner was always reminded that ‘football is bigger than individuals.’

In simple terms, this means no one owns this beautiful game, regardless of how powerful you are!

Before you ask yourself what the heck Zakes’ Sports Corner is talking about, there has been a lot going on in our football, especially in the Emfuleni Local Football Association (ELFA).

Much has been said and written about the newly elected executive committee under the leadership of Mfanafuthi Masondo.

Sedibeng Ster Sport ran an article about Masondo and other executive members who were voted in. There have been ugly confrontations on social media between current and previous ELFA members.

This horrible scene has even forced the local governing body, in this case, SAFA Sedibeng, to declare the ELFA election null and void. SAFA Sedibeng president Solly Mkhabela said the election was unconstitutional and ordered a re-election.

The problem with some football people is that they want to run football like the taxi industry. Zakes’ Sports Corner hopes he won’t be in trouble with the taxi industry for this utterance. My apology in advance if they feel offended!

Zakes’ Sports Corner is not going to take sides in this matter – who is right or wrong! But having said this, our football deserves better than this!

The truth is that we don’t need hooligans as football administrators.

The problem with our football is position mongers.

They (hooligans) have no place in our football.

The question is: how did we get here? The love of power is the main reason we find ourselves in this situation. The problem with our football is position mongers – people who will do anything to be or stay in power!

There is no more respect for this beautiful game, to say the least. People want to own football even if they don’t have the capacity to lead.

For those who are not aware, football is not about positions!

In the past, this region had dignified football administrators at all the levels – from the local football association to the regional office.

But recently, every Tom, Dick and Harry thinks they can run our football. If people who know how are going to allow this, then we are in serious trouble.

Sedibeng’s football is going to the dogs!

For those who are blind to see – this is our children’s future. Football has changed the lives of many families.

For example, Relebohile Mofokeng is one of the young players from this region whose life football has changed for the better. The reality is that we want to see more Rele Mofokengs coming from this region. Those football administrators must do the right thing and get their house in order!
