Toner supplier reposesses catridges from ELM

The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it is calling on the Minister of Cooperative Governance, Nkosazana Dlamini- Zuma to urgently intervene in the ANC-led Emfuleni Municipality, which they say is ankrupting small businesses by running up bills and not paying them.

According to Cllr Dady Mollo, the DA’s Constituency Leader: Vaal Emfuleni Central, a small company, Siyakha, that regularly supplies the municipality with toners for its printers, and has not been paid for several months and has now taken matters into its own hands.
“According to an insider at the municipality who informed the DA, the toner supplier repossessed all of its toners, leaving no means of printing documents for the upcoming 2021/2022 IDP and Budget public participation meetings resuming today,” Mollo said.
The municipality allegedly owes Siyakha close to R800 000 and is known to owe more than R1billion in all to its multiple debtors.
“Administrators brought to the Municipality by Gauteng COGTA MEC Lebogang Maile,  as part of a Section 139(1)(b) intervention have caused more harm than good,” says Mollo.
According to Mollo it is further alleged by the insider that some of these administrators are doing business with the municipality in their personal capacity and prioritising payments to their own companies.
Mollo in a statement called on residents of Emfuleni to reject the ANC at the upcoming local government elections.
“It is only change, through the DA, that can improve governance and take care of residents needs,” Mollo said.
