Sanitary towels and masks for Meyerton SAPS detainees

The Meyerton SAPS female detainees recently received a pleasant surprise when they were gifted with sanitary towels as well as masks.

MEYERTON. – The initiative was carried out by Kaylisha.M African Modeling Agency together with Meyerton SAPS, Department of Community Safety’s Gender-Based Violence Brigades and the Alpha Trauma Centre.
The organisation felt the need to show Meyerton SAPS detainees love and care.
“The fact that they have committed crimes doesn’t remove the fact that they are human beings and their health matters.”
Speaking during the event, Victim Empowerment Centre (VEC) Co-ordinator Constable Lettie Dhlomo said that female detainees are treated with respect and dignity whilst in custody.
“Their well-being and hygiene are Meyerton SAPS’s priority. Detainees are able to speak privately to a female custody officer about hygiene and welfare.”
Dlomo further stated that her experience in working with victims of crimes made her realise that perpetrators needed to be treated with kindness in order to change into better people.
The Station Commander of Meyerton SAPS, Colonel Victor Moeti Lepitla, expressed his sincere gratitude and thanks to the sponsor of the event.
“I am honoured to be part of such a good initiative.
“The station will strengthen the working relationship with Kaylisha.M African Modeling and other stakeholders in making sure that all the detainees are taken care of.”
Lepitla added that they are working hard to ensure that crime has no space in the Meyerton policing precinct.
