NHM calls for strict measures against illegal spaza shop owners
One of the coalition members in the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM), the New Horizon Movement (NHM), has called for strict measures against illegal tuck shop owners in the area.
SEDIBENG. – Following a report by Sedibeng Ster last week about expired food found at a warehouse in Meyerton, where the date on the food packages were being changed, NHM General Secretary, Ernest Nkopane, said that NHM stands in solidarity with the people in the townships, where the expired foods are sold, and say no to expired, fake goods as they have already killed many innocent South Africans and the law enforcement is doing little to nothing about the situation.
Nkopane added that New Horizon Movement (NHM) is very concerned about multiple records and publications of same acts of crime by illegal foreign nationals who continue to illegally operate spaza shops in townships, even months after the former Premier of Gauteng, David Makhura proclaimed a ‘Gauteng Economic Bill’ to be reserved to South Africans only.

“NHM recommends that Gauteng Township Economic Bill must be implemented through ‘Operation O kae Molao’ and proper remedial actions must be arranged urgently t, through stakeholders and draw a By-Law enforcement Bill that will prevent South African Landlords to hire out their place of residence to foreign nationals all in the name of trying to put food on the table instead of being the ones who actually should operate businesses right in their yards without paying rent while making profits as an advantage.”
The NHM is in a coalition in the ELM together with the Patriotic Alliance (PA), the African National Congress (ANC) and other small political parties.
