A new lease on life for Sebokeng Technical School graduates
Sebokeng Technical School learners were recently awarded with accredited certificates to go into various professional fields.
SEBOKENG. – Learners from the Sebokeng Technical Elsen School were overjoyed when they graduated, closing the year in style.
The school which deals with learners that have Severe Intellectual Disability and Mild Intellectual Ability offers learners alternative skills training which will enable them to go out into the corporate world and make a living despite their challenges.
Speaking to SGB member, Serame Serake, he explained that this was the first graduations were learners were receiving accredited certificates in various fields, recognized by the Department of Education.
Serake said previously, learners would be trained and given technical skills. “They would only be given a certificate of completion or participation at the end.
“Today is however a big day for the school because the certificates our learners are receiving will enable them to take up opportunities that will arise in various sectors.
Serake said that learners were trained in cooking, baking, sewing, bead work, hair dressing and beauty, carpentry, electrical engineering and welding.
Serake said that the government is a big support structure to the school through the Individual Learner Support program. The school introduced the technical occupational curriculum which gives the learners skills in different fields and prepares them for the workplace.
“After receiving these certificates, learners can go and further their studies if they wish. Those in beauty and carpentry can open their own businesses.”
Serake said he was delighted that the school now offers accredited technical training for learners with special needs and this would get learners a brighter future.
Parents were beaming with joy as they saw their children finally get awarded with their certificates.
