‘Hell’ breaks lose after Super League match

"I don’t want to comment on what happened at the end of the game, it is up to the league to handle this matter.”

EVATON.- Hell broke loose at the end of the Emfuleni Local Football Association’s (ELFA) Super League match between United Kingdom Academy and Tokyo FC at Qedilizwe ground in Evaton on Saturday.

A Tokyo player attacked the referee after he was sent off when the two teams played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday, in fact, two Tokyo FC players were sent off on the day for different misconducts. It was an ugly scene after the game when the player who was sent off attacked the referee in full view of the supporters.

This game was top of a table clash with United Kingdom FC having to come back from 1-0 to equalise in the last minutes to force the game to end in 1-all.  Despite this incident, it was a great game of football to watch.

The local soccer fans enjoyed every moment of the game.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, United Kingdom Academy Coach, Nono Moalosi complimented her team for their fighting spirit. She told Sedibeng Ster Sport that they are contesting for the league title and this game was significant for them.

“I’m very proud of our boys they never gave up fighting even when it looked as if the game would end 1-0 in favour of Tokyo FC but they kept fighting until the end. These results gave us a golden opportunity to be back in the title race. We will keep on fighting until the end of the season and our focus is on our next game. I don’t want to comment on what happened at the end of the game, it is up to the league to handle this matter,” she said.

Meanwhile, ELFA Competitions Convener Oupa Tladinyane said he was not aware of the incident until Sedibeng Ster Sport brought it to his attention on Monday.

“I was not aware, I will get the report from the match officials and I will take it from there, and thanks for bringing this to my attention,” said Tladinyane.
