Female filmmakers get business boost at GFC training

Aspiring filmmakers are encouraged to watch out for more exciting film initiatives from the Vaal.

SEDIBENG. – Emfuleni Arts, through its Inter-Governmental Relations partnership with the Gauteng Film Commission (GFC), continues to meaningfully invest in the development of the creative economy in the Vaal.

Three emerging female filmmakers from the Vaal region participated in an intensive workshop focused on the business of filmmaking.

The GFC successfully hosted a powerful Business Development Masterclass at the Bompas Hotel in Randburg, equipping filmmakers with critical tools, knowledge, and networks to thrive in the film industry.

The session brought together emerging and established creatives for a deep dive into business development strategies, including pitching, investor engagement, and building sustainable ventures.

A highlight of the day was an inspiring session led by renowned industry expert Linda Shezi (MaShezi), who shared insights on aligning creative vision with business acumen. She urged emerging filmmakers to equip themselves with knowledge around investment, licensing, and distribution for project success and sustainability.

Aspiring filmmakers are encouraged to watch out for more exciting film initiatives from the Vaal as Emfuleni Arts and its stakeholders continue to highlight and strengthen local creative voices.

An aspiring young female filmmaker, Dineo Diamond from Vanderbijlpark, shared her experience, saying the masterclass was well-organised, informative, and an incredible opportunity. She expressed her gratitude for being part of it, learning from others, and the great networking experience.
