WATCH: World Shootout Underwater Photographer winner on why we should protect sharks

WINNER of the 2015 The World Shootout Underwater Photography Grand Prix, Tanya Houppermans and her husband, Scott, arrived on the South Coast from America to enjoy her first prize – a 14-day trip to our beautiful part of the world.
The trip for two is sponsored by Tourism KwaZulu-Natal and Ugu South Coast Tourism, and includes flights, hotel accommodation on a B&B basis, car hire and excursions, worth USD6,000.

Tanya is an internationally-recognised, multi-award-winning photographer specialising in images of the natural world, especially below the water’s surface, while advocating for the protection of the world’s marine ecosystems through education and conservation.
Tanya had to submit a set of three shark images referring to the environmental context of the shark, emphasising its powerful visual appearance, as well as its independence and tendency to control.
The couple flew all the way from Washington and arrived in Durban on May 13.
We were very happy with South African Airways. The trip was long, but everything went flawlessly. All our luggage is with us, and we spent last night here in Durban. We are getting ready to head to Shakaland shortly and then on to Scottburgh, – Tanya.
The Houppermanns will enjoy diving world-renowned Aliwal Shoal and Protea Banks with local operators Crystal Divers and African Dive Adventures.
And some of their outings will include a visit to Oribi Gorge, lunch at Leopard Rock Coffee Shop, Oribi Gorge Vulture Hide and dinner at Oribi Gorge Hotel. In Ramsgate, the will have lunch at the Waffle House, and in Southbroom they will stay at San Lameer and be treated to a Camelot Spa treatment. Other outings will include a beach picnic in Southbroom and a Crop to Cup Beaver Creek Coffee tour.
