GOLF-CHAT: Luke Cubitt – ‘Slug’ moves along at his own (fast enough) pace
He has made some serious improvement in the past year or so and is more than holding his own at junior level and also for the Southern KZN league team. A bright prospect.

Who introduced you to golf? My dad, Simon.
Which clubs have you been a member at? Umdoni Park, Selborne Park and Scottburgh GC.

First golf course you ever played at? Scottburgh GC.
Career highlights? Had a few wins in KZN junior tournaments and won Umdoni club champs last year.
Golf course you would love to play? Augusta National, Pebble Beach and St Andrew’s Old Course.

Schools attended? Scottburgh Primary and Westville Boys’ High School.
If you could win any of the Majors, which one? The Masters.
Most famous person you have met or played golf with? Tim Clark.
Holes in one? 1. Scottburgh 2nd hole.
Albatross? Never had one.

Dream fourball? Myself, brother Jack, Mitchel Hampson and his dad Gareth.
Favourite meal and drink? Sushi and Coke.
World Cup final, T20 cricket or rugby? Rugby.
Countries you have been to? England and Scotland.

Historical figure you would like to meet? Tiger Woods. Would like to ask him how it feels and what it took to be so successful.
Player you’d choose to hole a 6 foot putt to save your life? Amateur – Mitchel Hampson; pro – Rickie Fowler.

Luckiest shot that mattered? I would say getting my hole in one as I hit a hybrid and it pitched short of the green and got a perfect bounce.
One shot or round or moment you’d like to be able to take over? I would like to replay the final round of the SA U19 National Order of Merit at Mount Edgecombe CC as I was played so well for the first two rounds and then the last round was a disaster.

Ever broken a club? Never broken a club.
Any injuries you’ve had to overcome? No injuries.
Funniest thing you have ever experienced on golf course? Any time playing with Gareth Hampson.
What irritates you most in golf? Slow play.
Best and worst advice received? Best advice on the game in general has been from Tim Clark.

Advice to anyone taking up the game? Never give up, keep at it.
Tell us something about yourself not many people know? I’m more determined than it may sometimes appear.
What’s next for you? Next year I am going to university at Stellenbosch in the Cape, to do a B Com in management science.
