Refuse truck causes a stink

Repairs were carried out the following day.

A HIBISCUS Coast Municipality refuse compactor broke down at a steep intersection in Ramsgate recently.

According to residents, staff had to wait several hours before they were picked up. A gardener at one of the nearby houses noticed that the truck was parked on a steep incline and placed blocks at the rear tyres. The truck was only removed late the following day.

“Since the vehicle is on a full maintenance lease, it was necessary to report the matter and obtain the authority of the service provider for the vehicle to be towed and repaired,” said municipal spokesman Simon Soboyisa.

“The repairs were carried out the following day, and the truck was operational by 2pm the same day. We are in the process of catching up on the backlogs, and the municipality would like to sincerely apologise to residents for the delays with regards to refuse removal,” said Mr Soboyisa.

He added that the backlog for the Ramsgate depot would be completely cleared by the end of the week.
