New pipleline causes problems

The water supply was shut off in order to commission the new pipeline.

UMTWALUME has been experiencing water supply interruptions since Thursday last week.

“The interruptions are due to the commissioning of the new pipeline linked to the Mathulini Water Scheme Phase 6 project,” explained Ugu spokesman, Sipho Khuzwayo.

The municipality is currently executing four projects meant to supply the communities of Mathulini, Nomakhanzana and Mnamfu with clean water.

The Mathulini Water Scheme project, with a cost of R13.9-millon, started in July 2011. “Last Thursday was the final day of the project and the water supply was shut off in order to commission the new pipeline,” he said.

“The contractor and the municipality are working hard to ensure that water supply is restored by (Thursday, August 22,” he added.

The municipality has dispatched water tankers to provide relief to the affected households until normal water supply resumes.
