Newcomers impress at HKC open show

There were, alas, some disqualifications.

MEMBERS of Hibiscus Kennel Club are gearing up for the annual September Champion Show to be held from September 27 to 29. Get your entries in by August 23.

The club recently held its open show, with some first-timers making an appearance.

Di Wallace and Lexi did extremely well. Tracy Norton disqualified herself but Badger did complete two clear rounds.

Jane Cruickshank and Mackie obtained three firsts, while Gaby Frey’s Scooby achieved two firsts and KT a third.

Junior handler Tessa Sao Joao and Chappie managed third and fourth, while Linda Lyte and Vixen achieved a first.

Jenny Robertson and Jodie completed the courses but Jodie decided she did not like the judge and for that kind of behaviour it’s three disqualifications. Oh dear.

K9 Puppy Academy graduated another group of puppies recently and it’s hoped they will be back for advanced class this Saturday, August 24.

Each puppy took home a beautiful certificate, a pledge card and a shiny food bowl as by now their puppy bowls are too small.

The follow-up course will give the dogs another six weeks of socialisation and their handlers another opportunity to acquire more skills in the training and handling of their young dogs.

Socialisation forms a huge part of puppy training and they are given ample opportunity, under the watchful eye of the trainers, to investigate each other and their surroundings.

By the end of eight weeks the timid ones are happy and the pushy ones have been put in their places.
