Cwele could be out soon
Convicted drug dealer, Sheryl Cwele, had her prison term reduced this week.
The Constitutional Court set aside the 20-year sentence imposed by the Supreme Court. The ruling was unopposed by the State and her sentence reverted back to the original 12 years.
However, the former director of health at Hibiscus Coast Municipality could soon get the same ‘get-out-of-jail-free’ cards that were dished out to Schabir Shaik and Jackie Selebi.
If she qualifies for special remission of sentence she could serve as little as three years in jail.
This news will be a bitter but unsurprising pill for convicted drug mule Tessa Beetge’s family to swallow.
Cwele is after all the former wife of State Security Minister, Dr Siyabonga Cwele.
Beetge has already served five of her eight year sentence in a Sao Paulo, Brazil jail.
