You’re the only God whose power none can contend

Isaiah 10 Amplified Bible (AMP)

1 WOE to those [judges] who issue unrighteous decrees, and to the magistrates who keep causing unjust and oppressive decisions to be recorded, 2 To turn aside the needy from justice and to make plunder of the rightful claims of the poor of My people. 3 And what will you do in the day of visitation [of God’s wrath], and in the desolation which shall come from afar? To whom will you flee for help? And where will you deposit [for safekeeping] your wealth and with whom leave your glory?

Woe -denotes a condition to be dreaded possibly signifying impending doom and/or the wrath of God, indignation. A condition of deep suffering from misfortune, affliction or grief.

Parental authority is a God-given privilege and responsibility. Our government in attempting to pass a law that will subvert the authority of parents by forbidding them from spanking their children, in the hope that they will curb or stop the violence perpetrated against children, find themselves in direction opposition to and violation of the Word of God.

This is not something that is foreign or new to us but just another orchestrated move on the part of the kingdom of darkness to usurp God’s authority,to overthrow the government of God.It is as old as time itself. But nothing takes God by surprise.

The Bible advocates discipline – physical or otherwise. Children just naturally do silly, careless things, but a good spanking will teach them how to behave. Proverbs 22:15 GNB.This was never meant as a form of child abuse but a means to cultivate sound morals and a godly character in our children which is beneficial and crucial to them becoming productive in the earth. This is vital and necessary in building strong families, strong communities and thereby a strong nation.

As the people of God, we are commanded and cautioned to be subject to governing authorities. This however does not mean that we remain silent, when we find that our laws impinge on our freedom to exercise biblical authority. We have a responsibility to this generation to proclaim the truth of God’s Word and why it is imperative to install godly governance and to warn those in rulership of the consequences of removing such rule. The powers that be are also God-given, whether they know it or not. Everyone must obey state authorities, because no authority exists without God’s permission, Romans 13:1.

So when government challenges God’s authority, legislating laws that contravene His Word, we then enact the higher law that is God’s Word. Governments have a responsibility too, according to Isaiah to rule with godly fear and to know that there are consequences when they deviate from God’s blueprint for governance. Let us stand against this evil but also remember that we are called to honour God and to represent Him as He is, in our attitude, our behaviour and our speech regardless of our environment, so that we do not blaspheme the name of our God or His doctrine. 1 Timothy 6:1
