11 people, four sheep injured in rollover

The vehicle appears to have been grossly overloaded.

ELEVEN Mtwalume residents and four sheep were injured in an accident on the N2 North near the Amanzimtoti River on Saturday morning at about 11am.

According to Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha, 15 people and the four sheep were travelling from their home in Mtwalume to attend a function in Pietermaritzburg when their bakkie overturned.

When Netcare 911 paramedics and the emergency services arrived at the scene they found the injured lying on the grass next to the highway, Two passengers had sustained serious injuries and nine had escaped with minor injuries. Paramedics stabilised the injured on scene before they were taken to various hospitals in the area.

The sheep were taken to the Amanzimtoti SPCA for treatment. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
