New tourism CEO meets and greets

Locals had the opportunity to meet the new tourism CEO face to face.

LOCALS had the opportunity to meet the new CEO of Ugu South Coast Tourism, Justin Mackrory, at the Shelly Beach Ski-boat Club on Thurday last week.

Mr Mackrory hosted the ‘meet and greet’ function to formally introduce himself in person to locals. “I have only been in office for 30 days and I won’t make big promises,” he said. “However, I’d like to point out that the South Coast economy depends highly on tourism and it is clear that tourism is the forefront economic sector in the area,” he said.

He also highlighted the importance of events in order to boost tourism. He even used the National Interschool’s netball tournament as an example. He pointed out that the tournament boosted the economy as school pupils from all over the country were here for the week.

“We also need to promote and own more events such as Africa Bike Week and we need more music events for the South Coast, because such events boost tourism,” he said.
