Ugu reviews cellphone policy

An average of R140 000 a month is currently being spent on cellular contracts.

UGU Municipality is reviewing its policy whereby municipal officials are given cellphone contracts which are paid for by the municipality. The cellphone contracts will be converted to allowances.

The municipality currently has 400 lines with Vodacom, and is spending on average R140 000 per month on cellular accounts: R57 290 on voice lines, R44 100 on data, R45 400 on voice lines top up allowance and R12 780 on HR allowance which is currently paid into salaries.

The cellular allowance will be paid into the salaries of officials who require mobile voice line or data connectivity to do their job.
