ISLAMIC School pupils were addressed by Sr Fathima Khamissa, to enlighten them on the causes and different types of diabetes, lifestyle management, and healthy food choices, in line with ‘diabetes week’.
The process of blood sugar testing was conducted to assure pupils that this was not as painful as it seemed. After recent health surveys revealing that South African children are at a higher risk of being diabetic, this informative session benefitted pupils in making proactive lifestyle changes to avoid being at risk of this disease.
The Conquesta Olympiad provides its services to schools in South Africa, as well as neighbouring countries, and the Port Shepstone Islamic School has been entering the Olympiad for the past 17 years.
