Local police shine at awards

South Coast police stations won some top awards.

THE KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, hosted the Provincial Commissioner’s awards function in Durban recently.

Police clusters, police stations and specialised units within the province were evaluated over the last financial year and given awards in recognition of outstanding achievements in the various categories. Specified stringent criteria had to be fulfilled in order for a cluster, station or unit to qualify for an award.

 St Faiths Police station received awards at the the Provincial Commissioners awards function in Durban recently. The station won Best Lieutenant Colonel Station overall and Best Lieutenant Colonel Station in Crime Prevention. The following awards were received: Port Shepstone Cluster for Best Major General Cluster in Crime Investigation; Margate for Best Brigadier/Colonel Cluster in Crime Prevention; St Faiths for Best Lieutenant Colonel Station Overall; St Faiths for Best Lieutenant Colonel Station in Crime Prevention; Sawoti for Best Captain Station in Crime Investigation; Port Shepstone POP Unit for Best Performing Public Order Policing Unit (POP); Port Shepstone for Best Performing Organised Crime Unit, Port Shepstone for Best Dive Point Unit, Kokstad for Best Criminal Record and Crime Scene Management Unit.

General Ngobeni commended the award recipients for their achievements and thanked them for their sterling efforts in combating crime in their respective clusters.Brigadier Morris Moodley, the Margate Cluster Commander, Colonel Iks Naicker, the acting Port Shepstone Cluster Commander and Colonel Malixole Kwezi, the acting Kokstad Cluster Commander, in turn commended and thanked the award recipients within their clusters.
