An alert local security officer arrested a suspected copper thief after observing his suspicious behaviour on the Scottburgh street monitoring cameras.
Gladiator Security’s control room picked up the suspicious individual and an accomplice checking out their surroundings in Scottburgh on August 30 at 03:14.
Footage showed one man exiting a footpath, checking out the surroundings, and then signalling the second man, who appeared to be hiding items under his jacket.
A team was dispatched to investigate further, and when the officers approached them, both fled onto the golf course.
Officers detained one man, who was found in possession of one roll of suspected stolen copper cable. He could not disclose where he got it from.
The man also refused to provide details about his accomplice.
Scottburgh Saps then arrived at the scene and took the man into custody. Investigations are ongoing.
