BOTH a councillor and a municipal official have been found guilty of trading with the municipality.
A report was tabled at the Hibiscus Coast Municipality’s council meeting on Tuesday this week with regard to an investigation into irregular expenditure.
The investigation centres on tenders having been awarded to persons who are in the service of the state.
The report follows the Auditor General’s findings on three municipal officials and a councillor who allegedly traded with the municipality.
“The investigations on these matters started in August this year, through council’s ad hoc committee on irregular expenditure has since been finalised,” deputy mayor Johnny de Wet told the media at press briefing held after the council meeting.
The deputy mayor said council had resolved to give the councillor, who was found guilty, a fine of R15 000, of which R9 000 will be suspended for the duration of the current term, provided he is not found guilty of committing a similar offence in that period. The balance of R6 000 will have to be paid within a period of six months.
“Investigations on the two other pending cases involving two municipal officials are still under way and the findings will be announced soon,” he concluded.
