Lions light up children’s Christmas
South Coast Hospice runs a 'Toys for Kidz Christmas Drive'.
FATHER Christmas will arrive for many local children who might not be expecting him, thanks to South Coast Hospice, the Port Shepstone Lions and other members of a caring South Coast community.
As well as looking after Aids patients through its integrated community-based home care programme, South Coast Hospice cares for many children who are either infected or affected by HIV/Aids, through its orphaned and vulnerable children programme.
Each year hospice members try to make Christmas special for these children by collecting and handing out gifts through their ‘Toys for Kidz Christmas Drive’.
“We rely heavily on the community, retailers, chain stores and of course our wonderful service clubs. Each year they show their value to us by giving as much as they can, knowing it will light up a child’s life, even for just one day,” said South Coast Hospice grant writer Sonja Pye.
This year, Port Shepstone Lions have really come to the party, delivering boxes and boxes of soft toys, skateboards, soccer balls, books and other toys. The Lions also gave hospice boxes of Nutren nutritional supplement, which they received from Nestle, Durban. It is a great supplement for people on medication, making it perfect for many hospice patients.
