Historic church welcomes all
This quaint church in Izotsha offers English and German services every Sunday.
THE Evangelical Lutheran Church of Bethanien was built at Izotsha, in 1903. The congregation has changed from being a typical German congregation to a thoroughly mixed one retaining the German heritage.
A characteristic of the congregation is its inclusiveness, in that it tries to provide a home to people from all walks of life.
One of the latest additions to the church building has been two beautiful stained glass windows in the front section of the church in 2010.
The first window depicts God as the creator, the centre arch with the crucifix depicting God revealed through Christ, and the window on the right shows the presence of God in this world through his Holy Spirit. The rainbow serves as a reminder of God’s covenant and his promise.
The church offers English and German services every Sunday. On special occasions the services are combined and are successfully presented in both languages. Services are held at 8am and 9.30am.
