No clean audit for HCM

the municipality is facing 15 lawsuits that amount to more than R10-million.

MUNICIPAL performance impacts directly on the lives of ordinary people.

Therefore it should be unacceptable that standards decline year after year.

Although Hibiscus Coast Municipality made vigorous claims that it would get a clean audit, it did not.

The audit report was tabled at a council meeting this week.

A whopping R38,96-million was recorded as being either ‘irregular’ or ‘unauthorised’ spending. And the municipality is facing 15 lawsuits that amount to more than R10-million.

On the positive side, mayor Cynthia Mqwebu does not believe the municipality has regressed and says the council has confidence in the new municipal manager, Max Mbili.

However, we can’t pretend that all is well and HCM should start facing reality and improve performance levels.
