Drinking water under scrutiny
Samples will be taken at a school, a hospital and two rivers in the Umdoni area.
THE nation’s drinking water is coming under the spotlight, courtesy of civil rights organisation, AfriForum. The organisation has launched the Blue and Green Drop Campaign, a national project focusing on the efficacy of drinking water and sewerage plants in towns across South Africa. The campaign does not focus on the condition of the plants as such, but on the quality of the drinking water (Blue Drop) and of the treated sewage water (Green Drop) from the plants.
“In light of the Ugu District Municipality’s disclaimer opinion report received from the Auditor-General, AfriForum in KwaZulu-Natal decided to launch the Blue and Green Drop Campaign on the south coast,” said Chris Fourie, community co-ordinator for AfriForum in KZN. He adds that samples will be taken at a school, a hospital and two rivers in the Umdoni area.
Interested parties are invited to join the team taking test samples at Umdoni Christian Academy in Ken Scott Link, Abram’s Crest, Kelso, on Wednesday, February 12 at 9am. The team will then move on and collect samples at Pennington and Scottburgh.
