Jai Hind SGB steps down
The investigation regarding the humiliation of a grade 1 pupil at the school has been completed and the report has been sent to the head of department at the department of education for a decision.
AFTER intensive discussions with the Department of Education, parents and staff, the governing body of Jai Hind Primary last Thursday decided to stand down.
“This decision was taken in the best interests of education, pupils and staff. It is our fervent wish that this resolution will support quality management, teaching and learning,” said former governing body chairman Rubeun Judnarain.
He added that since the governing body has ceased to perform its functions, the department of education will appoint people to perform governance functions until further notice.
This transitional process has been instituted in terms of section 25 of the South African Schools Act No. 84 of 1996. Upon finalisation of this matter, the department of education will convene by-elections for five parents, two teachers and one non-teacher representative.
“I take this opportunity to thank all governing body members, parents, staff and departmental representatives for their contribution and support to the school,” said Mr Judnarain.
He also urged the department of education to treat all other outstanding matters as urgent, so that the school may once again be recognised as an institution of excellence.
Meanwhile the investigation regarding the humiliation of a grade 1 pupil at the school has been completed.
Three weeks ago the pupil had to endure the humiliation of being stripped naked and hosed down, with a fire hose. This was done in full view of pupils and parents, after she had accidentally soiled herself in school.
The report has been sent to the head of department at the department of education for a decision.
Other issues pertaining to the teacher who missed a total of 100 maths lessons last year and the incident where a teacher assaulted a former grade five pupil in 2012, are still being investigated by the department.
