Medics rewarded for dedication

The awards aim to ensure a happy and satisfied workforce that feels valued by its employer.

EMERGENCY Medical Services Ugu District received two awards at the Department of Health KwaZulu-Natal’s inaugural MEC’s annual service excellence awards (MASEA) ceremony, which was held at the ICC in Durban last Friday.

The EMRS unit, which is based in Marburg, received an award for dedication and commitment to service delivery. The award was in recognition of the role played by the unit in assisting at the horrific accident on the R102 near Sappi, Umkomaas last year in which 11 people died.

Tim Larsen, district manager congratulated all staff on achieving the award. “It was team effort that made us win this award,” he said.

EMRS’s spokesman for the province, Robert McKenzie, who is also based at the Ugu District unit, received an award in recognition of his dedication and commitment to service delivery.

St Andrew’s Hospital in Harding received two awards, a gold for the implementation of national core standards and a silver for the implementation of Batho Pele principles.
