Three injured in R61 accident

Motorists are urged to be extra cautious when driving on the wet roads.

THREE people were injured when a vehicle and a bakkie collided on the R61 near Shelly Beach a short while ago. Paramedics from KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services and several private ambulance services responded to the scene.

“The injured were treated by the paramedics before being transported to hospital,” said Robert Mckenzie, KZN EMS Media Liaison Officer. Mr Mckenzie said although its unclear if the wet roads contributed to the accident, motorist are urged to be extra cautious when driving in rainy weather. He advised motorists to slow down and to increase their following distances.

“Motorists are also asked to slow down when approaching an accident scene, as there are often patients, bystanders and EMS staff who are at risk of being hit by a passing vehicle,” he said. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
