Streaked and shaved for Cansa
Spray cans and razor blades helped set new hairstyle trends at the Cansa Shavathon.
SHOPPING centres were abuzz last Saturday as shoppers supported the Cansa Shavathon.
Young and old took part in the Cancer Association of South Africa’s (Cansa) annual Shavathon fund-raiser held at Southcoast Mall, Shelly Centre and Hibiscus Mall.
Volunteers from various local clubs helped Cansa officials with their ‘hair-raising’ task.
Shoppers had their hair colour-sprayed leaving with fancy flower, lightning and star prints in their hair, while some shed a tear or two, opting for something more low maintenance and decided to shave their hair off in memory of friends or family affected by cancer.
At the time of going to press, a whopping R30 000 had been raised, which includes money from several local schools who also hosted Shavathons.
Regional manager for Cansa South Coast, James Jones, said that Cansa received amazing support from the community.
“I would like to thank everyone involved for all the hard work they put in to make this Shavathon a resounding success. Thanks must also go to Cansa staff as well,” said Mr Jones.
He said although figures had decreased compared to last year, Cansa was still extremely grateful. All three shopping centres had done very well.
