DURING Port Shepstone Secondary’s volleyball tournament last Saturday, the school confirmed its emergence as a powerhouse in volleyball by capturing the coveted title of ‘secondary school champions’. Entering a total of eight teams with six teams qualifying for the semi-final stages, PSS went on to contest all four finals on offer, walking away as undisputed winners in both the girls’ U16 and O16 divisions and featured as runners-up in the boys’ over and U16 divisions.
The girls’ O16 team oozed power, class and experience in every position. They completely dominated the opposition, who eventually succumbed to the unrelenting pressure. Lydia John made the difference for PSS as she delivered pinpoint sets for her attackers.
The girls’ U16 team started slowly, but soon got into rhythm, winning all round robin matches and semi-finals comfortably. The finals against old foes Merlewood Secondary proved to be a one-sided affair with PSS clinching the title in straight sets. Nozibusiso Luthuli, Londiwe Mbele and Estelle Sayers were in devastating form.
