Sheppie police make several arrests
The team is making a significant impact on crime on the lower South Coast.

POLICE officers Warrant Officer Patrick Gosling, Constable Travis Dickens, Cst Raphael Smithwick, Sergeant Anil Dawlat, Cst Mduduzi Makhaya and Cst ‘MC’ Mjweni have been hot on the heels of house breakers and thieves in the Port Shepstone policing area.
A 27-year-old man was arrested after he broke into a Marburg home last Friday. Police followed up on information received and arrested the man at the Port Shepstone bus rank. A stolen generator and a BMX bicycle were recovered.
On Saturday, the team arrested a 36-year-old man for malicious damage to property after he allegedly smashed the window of a bottle store in Merlewood with an empty beer bottle.
On Sunday they arrested a 20-year-old man who is suspected of having broken into two businesses in Port Shepstone on April 27 and March 3. The man faces charges of business break-in.
“On Monday morning this week a woman was talking to two men in Bazley Street in Port Shepstone. Only later did she discover that her cellphone was missing from her bag. She suspected that the men had distracted her and stolen her phone,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
Shortly afterwards, police arrested a 20-year-old man, fitting the description given by the woman, in Port Shepstone CBD. The cellphone was recovered. He will be charged with theft.
A shop owner in Boboyi was threatened with a knife by three men on Monday morning this week. The men demanded money. However the shop owner resisted and the police were summoned. Three men, all in their twenties, were arrested by the team.
