The welcome rains took their toll on the Art-in-the-Park venue, with undrained puddles, uneven surfaces and slippery grass.
Johann du Toit, convenor of the event, says this made it unsafe for exhibitors and visitors to walk around.
“Even though the day was perfect weather-wise, it was decided after consultation with my fellow artists to postpone the event, with the safekeeping of our visitors in mind.”
However, the good rains saw several indigenous evergreen trees planted to celebrate Arbor Week.
These trees were kindly donated by Colin Moodley of Uvongo Art Gallery, Simon Woodley of Indigi Flora in Munster, and the artists. This was done to beautify the park venue for the future.
The special exhibition of paintings with trees as a theme is still on, and the artists look forward to meeting visitors at Uvongo Park on September 12, from 09:00 to 13:00.
