AfriForum optimistic after meeting

Residents of Hibiscus Coast Municipality should send service delivery complaints to services@hcm.gov.za.

WHILE it believes there are still many problems to be solved, AfriForum members are much more optimistic about the future, after meeting with Hibiscus Coast municipal manager, Max Mbili, and other officials.

The AfriForum delegation presented Mr Mbili with a list of complaints about problems the municipality has faced during the last three years. He agreed that some problems remained unresolved but assured AfriForum that good progress had been made.

“We are pleasantly surprised by the outcome of the meeting and the urgency with which the municipal manager is addressing the issues. We trust that we will be able to be more successful by working together,” said Marinda Kruger, chairman of the AfriForum branch in Margate.

Community co-ordinator for AfriForum KwaZulu-Natal, Chris Fourie, said it was clear Mr Mbili was willing to accept assistance and keen to work with AfriForum and other organisations to rebuild the Hibiscus Coast and to return it to its former glory.

The delegates from the municipality committed to give feedback to AfriForum within 14 days regarding the steps they would take to rectify matters and how members and the community could assist.

“We would like to encourage people to become involved in the rebuilding process. While we will work with the municipality to find solutions, we made it very clear that AfriForum was still a watchdog of local government and would not shy away from our responsibility towards our members,” Mr Fourie added.

He urged Hibiscus Coast residents to send their complaints to services@hcm.gov.za.

“If you have not received an acknowledgement of receipt within 48 hours or your complaint has not been addressed by the department responsible within 10 working days, please forward the information to margate@afriforum.co.za,” said Mr Fourie.
