‘Date rape’ accused in court

He became angry when the woman refused to kiss him.

A MAN (23) has been charged with the rape of a 24-year-old woman in Gamalakhe last Sunday.

The man appeared in the Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday this week and will appear for legal aid on Monday, March 31.

“It is claimed the woman was walking in Ray Nkonyeni Road in Gamalakhe  at around 4pm when she met the man,” said police spokesman Captain Gerald Mfeka.

He added that the two agreed to meet the next day. When they met the following day, the man  took her to a tavern in Gamalakhe.

“At the tavern, she said he wanted to kiss her. When she refused, he apparently threatened to assault her in front of patrons in the tavern. He then demanded that she leave with him. They went to a friend’s house near the Gamalakhe police station where he raped her,” said Captain Mfeka.
