Port Shepstone karateka earn black belts
Karate instils self-discipline and self-confidence.
The International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF) held its annual training seminar and grading in Phoenix recently.
Chief instructor Sensei San Pillay (8th Dan) conducted the class with high-level training to keep up with ISKF standards.
Many karatekas were graded after the gruelling training session. Four local karatekas from ISKF Port Shepstone, training under Sensei Jay Rambharos (5th Dan), were graded to Shodan (black belt).
They are Tanvir Ramraj, Cheytalya Harilal, Cheyali Harilal and Aarav Rampersad.
Sensei Jay said he was proud of the karatekas who did exceptionally well.
“By taking up karate, one uses almost every muscle for a perfect workout. Karate is much more than self-defence. It instils self-discipline, respect and self-confidence, and most of all enhances good character in one’s life. Parents must encourage their children to continue their karate training to stay focused and disciplined. There is no age limit to start karate,” said Sensei Jay.
