Exciting plans for Harding

The cattle in Harding may soon glow in the dark.

RESIDENTS of kwaFodo near Harding have been buoyed by the news that a multi-million rand development will be taking place in the area in the near future.

The announcement was made by Michael Mabuyakhulu, the MEC of Economic Development and Tourism, at a press conference this week. The project includes the construction of a hotel, an amphitheatre and a shopping mall.

Mr Mabuyakhulu said the aim was to bring social and economic upliftment to the area, which forms part of the Ugu district.

Dr Meshack Radebe, MEC of Agriculture and Environmental Affairs, said that the goal was for kwaFodo to be developed so that it could be a town of “very high standards”.

Importantly, he said the department planned to have all farms fenced and cattle labelled to decrease theft.

“The labelling of the cattle will be a way of preventing people from stealing and also stop any ‘unprofessional’ selling of cattle. It will also help the owners identify their herd because the labels will glow in the dark.”

Chief Phathisizwe Chiliza, the chairman of chiefs (amakhosi) in KZN, commended the government on the improvements already brought to kwaFodo .

He mentioned that water and electricity had been installed, and houses had been built in many parts of the area.
