Golfer provides NSRI with timely boost
He chose the NSRI's Shelly Beach coastal station as the beneficiary of $10 000.
WORLD famous golfer Mark McNulty is well known for his silky smooth swing and elegant dress sense.
What might not be so well known is that he loves the South Coast, owns property here – and goes diving at any opportunity he can get while here.
Mark was Nick Price’s vice-captain at last year’s President’s Cup golf tournament (between USA and Internationals, excluding Europe), held in the United States.
As part of a PGA Tour initiative, the players, captains and vice-captains were able to distribute a sum of money to their charity or charities of choice.
Mark chose the NSRI’s Shelly Beach coastal station as the beneficiary of $10 000. The total amount given to distribute by the PGA was $5-million, a record.
NSRI Shelly Beach, tasked with saving lives, is a voluntary non-profit organisation. Its members have helped out on many occasions, responding to diving accidents or incidents.
Mark said he was impressed by the selfless efforts from volunteers he had observed early one Saturday morning.
“I believe it is important for us to thank them for the good work they do on the Hibiscus Coast, and I hope this donation goes a long way to saving lives at sea,” he said.
Dr Cleeve Robertson, NSRI’s new CEO, said the Shelly Beach volunteers had rescued a number of divers. Some of these had involved long searches when divers had become separated from their charter boats.
“For a small village like Shelly Beach this donation is very important as it will relieve some pressure to find money for the station’s running costs and maintenance. It is a very kind donation. Mr McNulty deserves a huge vote of thanks,” he said.
