Truck catches fire on freeway

The truck crashed through a barrier and caught alight.

A TRUCK driver managed to escape uninjured after the truck he was driving burst into flames on the N2 between Hibberdene and Port Shepstone during the early hours of this morning (Friday).

“A truck carrying a load of groceries left the road, crashed through the barrier and rolled onto its side at the bottom of an embankment,” said Robert Mckenzie, KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services spokesman.

Mr Mckenzie said the truck caught fire, with the flames quickly engulfing both the vehicle and its load.

Emergency services, Hibiscus Coast Fire department and law enforcement officers responded to the scene. At daybreak, the burnt-out truck was still smouldering, with small pockets of fire flaring occasionally. A team is currently recovering  the vehicle. Fore more photos, take a look at our gallery.
