Man arrested in Magog after police recover illegal 9mm pistol

He faces charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

A 34-year-old man appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court after police recovered an unlicensed firearm and ammunition at a residence in Echibini, Magog, near Umzumbe on May 27.

Members of the Port Shepstone Tactical Response Team arrested the man after receiving information from Crime Intelligence about an illegal firearm.

During a search of the residence, police recovered a 9mm parabellum pistol and nine rounds of live ammunition.

The man allegedly told police that he had purchased the firearm from another person in 2023.

He faces charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The case was postponed to July 31, for further investigation.
