School gets welcome ‘book boost’ from NPC
The pupils were encouraged to become nation builders.
MURCHISON Primary has benefited from mining company NPC’s latest corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, with a new library being opened recently.
The theme was ‘Readers are leaders’, and pupils were encouraged to start reading at a young age, so that they could progress to one day becoming leaders in the nation.
Lynette Zwane (department of education portfolio committee chairman), who filled in for Peggy Nkonyeni (minister of education in KZN) who could not make it on the day, shared some wise words.

She urged pupils to ‘start dreaming’ about becoming company CEOs and owners of their own businesses, as that is what the country needs, she said.
Murchison Primary principal Ziningi Ngubane called NPC ‘nation builders’. She said the library would be put to good use by the pupils and teachers.
In a country where access to literature is limited the opening of the library will be crucial to the education and academic progress of the pupils.
NPC’s Thandi Khumalo commended the school for its cleanliness.

She encouraged the pupils to use the books effectively. “When students came forward from rural schools for bursaries, we discovered many found it difficult to even write the simple motivation letter properly,” she said.
NPC is taking the initiative to help them increase their English vocabulary, and thus increase their chances of better academic results.
