Boy (7) presumed dead in fishing tragedy

The search for the missing child is continuing.

A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD child is missing, presumed drowned, after slipping and falling off the rocks while fishing at Leisure Bay last Sunday.

According to Margate SAPS police spokesman Captain Gerald Mfeka the boy, from Ncukeni ward near Port Edward, went fishing with a friend, also aged seven, at about 1pm.

The friend told police that his friend’s fishing trace had become stuck on the rocks and that his friend had gone to retrieve it.

“It is believed that the boy was at the edge of the rocks when he slipped and fell into the ocean and was swept away,” said Captain Mfeka. The boys were unsupervised at the time.

Police were notified after the friend alerted a security guard at Leisure Bay. The search by Port Shepstone SAPS Search and Rescue Unit continues.
