No news on Douglas’s death
She was shot at and killed, allegedly by police, in a high-speed chase.
THERE has been no further news on the investigation into the death of local restaurateur Leanne Douglas in September last year.
Ms Douglas (45) was the owner of the Red Rooster restaurant at Spiller’s Wharf in Port Shesptone. She was found dead in an overturned, bullet-riddled vehicle on N2 highway near Umkomaas. She was allegedly shot and killed by police in a high-speed chase.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) completed its investigation into the matter in January this year, and its recommendations were sent to the director of public prosecutions for a decision.
Ms Douglas’s mother, Leonie Luckin, said she had ‘heard nothing further’ on the high profile case, adding that her lawyer was keeping an eye on things. “I try to keep positive and strong, as I have to keep going,” she said.
Douglas died after at least five police bullets struck her blue Chevrolet Spark, causing it to roll.
