Suburbs sign up for ‘street cop’

Other areas are welcome to join this initiative.

THERE is growing interest in Street Cop.

To curb crime in Southport, Community Safety Organisation (CSO) Street Community Orientated Policing (Cop) was recently launched, and it’s been a great success.

Other suburbs have also welcomed the idea, and John Irven, CSO chairman, recently met with the people of Munster and Oslo Beach. He presented the Street Cop concept to them.

The Munster community loved the concept, and training was recently done with those who volunteered.

Munster has a sponsor for their uniforms, and these are now being ordered.

John said they would do a group community walk, as soon as they had received their uniforms.

CSO Street Cops‘s  Sea Park to Umzumbe members were out in full force last week, to assist in safeguarding holidaymakers and their possessions during the two day event at Southport beach.

“This went down extremely well with holidaymakers, with much positive comment,” said John.

If any other areas would like more information about starting a branch, they can contact John at 039 6952602/078 7546828 or email irven@telkomsa.net.
