Inquest delay distresses family
The Blair Trouchet case has been ongoing for three years now.
THE family of Blair Trouchet is questioning the ongoing delay in securing a date for an inquest into her death.
Miss Trouchet, a drug addict, was admitted to the South Coast Recovery Centre and Halfway House on Sunday, February 20, 2011. However, she died three days later, on Wednesday, February 23.
So far, two inquests have been held, but now the family is wanting to confirm the dates for the third stage of the inquest.
Miss Trouchet’s father, Glen and his wife, Kerry flew out from Australia last week, to prepare for the inquest that was expected to be held in June or July this year.
However, while visiting, they were informed that no inquest date had in fact been confirmed by the centre’s legal council, Strauss Daly Attorneys.
When the Herald asked for a response, the personal assistant said Jan-Hendrik Senekal from Strauss Daly Attorneys was away and that his response would follow when he returned on April 30.
“The case has being going on for more than three years. It’s ridiculous, as we are ready to start the inquest. We believe the Recovery Centre is using stall tactics and excuses, and don’t want the inquest to come to a conclusion,” said Mr Trouchet.
He said the delays were frustrating, time consuming and costly.
“It is also very emotionally draining for the family as we can’t get answers,” he added.
