Justice for ‘grand old lady’

Umdoni Municipality has advised the tree feller to get professional help to repair the damage caused to the tree.

THE axe is set to fall on Scottburgh’s infamous lumberjack if he does not organise some serious first aid for the mutilated ‘grand old lady’ in Taylor Street.

The iconic tree, which is said to be hundreds of years old, was hacked to pieces some weeks ago, incurring the wrath of many Scottburgh residents who even held a silent vigil outside the culprit’s house. Police were called in to defuse the situation.

Umdoni Municipality has now officially advised the tree feller to get some professional help to repair the damage caused to the tree. “He has been given one month to remedy the situation, failing which we will institute legal action,” said communications officer, Zamqavezi Kweyama.
