Roads closed for Africa Bike Week

Some roads in Margate will be closed for Africa Bike Week.

THOUSANDS of bikers will descend on Margate fromtomorrow (Thursday) for Africa Bike Week.

Road closures will be as follows:

Panorama Parade (venue of main event) will be closed off tomorrow (Thursday) from 8am until Sunday, May 4 at 4pm and will only be accessible by motorcycle. Access to event permit holders will only be between 11pm and 8am.

Marine Drive will be closed on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3 between 12.30pm and 2.30pm, from the corner of Marine Drive and Nadona Avenue, as well as from the corner of Marine Drive and Panorama Parade for Project Rushmore Skills Demonstration.

On Sunday, Marine Drive will be closed for the Ride-in-Bike Show between 10am and 5pm from the corner of Marine Drive and Nodona Avenue and the corner of Marine Drive and Panorama Parade.

Panorama Parade, the event venue, will be a one way only from Margate Hotel until the end of the event site, beyond the fishing pier, from 8am until 4pm on Monday, May 5.

Permit holding system:

A permit system will be in place for the following three groups assisting with the event.

*Delivery vehicle for vendors trading at the event.

*Local residents and businesses with access via Marine Drive.

*Holiday letting customers with access via Marine Drive.

Access for the above mentioned will be granted to the event venue (Panorama Parade) ONLY between 11pm and 8am until May 4. Normal road access and traffic flow will resume on May 5 from 4pm.

Unauthorised vehicles left unattended within the site venue outside these hours will be towed at the owner’s risk and cost.

The mass ride will depart from the Shelly Centre on Sunday, May 4 at 10.30am to Port Shepstone. Anyone with queries regarding the road closures can contact the Hibiscus Coast Protection Services at 039 6825555.
