VIDEO: Four seriously injured during Africa Bike Week

The annual bike rally was marred by a number of accidents.

SIX accidents involving motorcyclists occurred during Africa Bike Week.

A motorcyclist, believed to be from Anerley, is in a critical condition after a collision with a taxi in Marine Drive, Oslo Beach last Thursday.

EMRS spokesman Robert Mckenzie said the injured woman (36) was taken to the Port Shepstone Regional Hospital.

Another bike accident took place on the N2 between Port Shepstone and Hibberdene on the same day and no one was injured.

A motorcyclist was seriously injured at the intersection of the R620 and Izotsha Road on Friday morning, around 3.15 am, when a motorbike collided with a bakkie. The two occupants of the bakkie were not injured.

“Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the man lying on the roadway, the crumpled remains of his bike were found several metres away,” said Chris Botha of Netcare 911.

He added that paramedics stabilised the man on scene, and he was transported to hospital. A reckless and negligent driving docket was opened.

On Saturday, two serious motorbike accidents took place, one in Seaslopes Road where a motorcyclist was seriously injured, and the other on the N2 near Merlewood.

On Sunday, a bike collided with a car near Douglas Mitchell Sports Ground but there were no injuries.
