Marburg queen’s reign draws to a close

The Mrs India South Africa pageant showed a young woman the importance of giving.

BEAUTY and brains are a great combination and Marburg’s Reshica Naicker has both. She won the Mrs India South Africa pageant 2013 at Izulu Theatre, Sibaya Casino, Durban in August.

Reshica explained that beauty pageants were not all about ‘glitz and glamour’. “It requires a lot of hard work and dedication. It made me appreciate what I have. There are so many people who have nothing,” she said.

Reshica admitted she didn’t expect to win. “There was tough competition and I competed against 74 women from all over the world who were on top of their game but I managed to hold it together,” she laughed.

As part of the pageant’s criteria, she and the other finalists had to arrange campaigns for charity. Reshica worked closely with M² Community Association, took part in the Jail & Bail fund-raiser at the Shelly Centre, joined the Bidvest 19km Walk to raise funds for wheelchairs for paraplegics, assisted the Platinum Group in Johannesburg to raise funds for a children’s home and gave motivational talks to senior citizens of Port Shepstone.

Other fund-raising events lined up for her are the Chatsworth Child Welfare Fair and a Gold Circle fund-raiser.

After winning Mrs India SA she went to Delhi to represent South Africa in Mrs India Worldwide. At this pageant she won two subtitles, Mrs Beautiful Eyes and Mrs Intellectual.

Her motto in life is to accept what is, let go of what was, and have faith in what will be.

The Mrs India South Africa 2014 pageant will take place at Izulu Theatre, Sibaya Casino, Durban on August 9 and is open to married or divorced women between the ages of 21 and 45.

Those interested in taking part should contact the organisers at info@mrsindiasa.co.za or 082 4660446.

Reshica advises women entering this year’s competition to ‘follow your heart, trust your instincts but most importantly, believe in yourself!’

“Not all contestants can win the ultimate prize but the goal is to ensure that they will return home with great memories and new beginnings,” she concluded.
